CHARACTER INFO
Name: Ema Skye
Gender: Female
Source: Ace Attorney
Canon point: Right after her appearance in AAI, so she’s back in the States for spring break.
Age: 18
Colour: #1EA4FE
Chumhandle: scientificInvestigator
History: Wiki's here, though I tried to summarize pertinent info here:
With both of her parents having died when she was very young, Ema was raised by her older sister Lana for most of her life. She idolized her older sibling, whose interest in law and crime investigation eventually rubbed off on her. While her sister went through law school and subsequently launched her career as a prosecutor, Ema’s budding interest in forensic science took the form of her getting her hands on investigative equipment and ‘scientifically’ sleuthing any and everything.
When she was 14, she became involved in the SL-9 incident. While waiting in her sister’s office, a serial killer named Joe Darke, who was being questioned in a nearby interrogation room, escaped during a power outage. The man ducks into Lana’s office in an attempt to hide from the pursuing police, threatening Ema when he realizes that he’s not alone. Neil Marshall, the prosecutor who was involved in Darke’s interrogation, charges in before she could be harmed and the two men begin to struggle. In the darkened confusion Ema thinks she sees Darke pull a knife of Marshall. She rushes forward to push Darke away and succeeds in sending both men tumbling and into unconsciousness. Shortly thereafter Ema faints from the shock.
Damon Gant, a detective who had also been involved in Darke’s interrogation, enters the scene next. Seeing an opportunity here, Gant kills the unconscious Marshall and arranges the crime scene to appear as if Ema had done the deed. Lana comes in shortly afterward and, to her horror, finds Gant’s fabricated crime scene. Desperate to keep her little sister from taking the fall, Lana rearranges the scene a second time with Gant’s help, this time implicating Darke. Gant, however, had stashed away evidence that pushed the blame on Ema and used it as blackmail to keep Lana in line and to get her to do his bidding.
Two years later, one of the detectives who had been involved in SL-9 and was suspicious of some funny business in it asked Gant if they could reopen the case. Afraid that this would bring the truth to light, Gant impulsively killed the detective and pressured Lana into disposing of the body. She was caught in the act, however, and arrested for his murder. Fearing that admitting the truth would lead to a reopening of SL-9, and subsequently reveal Ema as Neil’s murderer, Lana confessed to killing the detective.
Ema refused to believe that her sister could have done it, and enlisted the aid of Phoenix Wright to defend her in court. Through the course of the trial, the true events of SL-9 were revealed. While off the hook for the murder, Lana still had to answer for her involvement in the fabrication. She sends Ema to live with a coroner friend in Europe, where she can continue her forensic studies.
After this point I’m going to go with a bit of headcanon/handwaving and say that when Ema returns two years later on spring break, Lana isn’t imprisoned and Ema is staying at her apartment when she receives the Sburb discs.
Personality: Bubbly and inquisitive would be how many describe Ema upon first meeting her. She’s typically friendly and outgoing, especially if someone shows even the slightest interest in her forensic babblings. She loves looking into things “scientifically,” whether it makes sense to or not, and she will often try to drag others along on her impromptu investigations.
Ema is a take-action sort of girl, unwilling to simply wait around for opportunities to simply come to her or situations to develop on their own. She’ll go out of her way to get things she wants or search out people she needs to speak with. Don’t expect her to sit idly by when there’s a whole new world for her to investigate!
She has a stubborn side to her as well. Once she’s dead-set on something, she doesn’t easily give up. She also doesn’t respond well to obnoxious personality types or acts of coercion—don’t expect much cooperation from her with behavior like that.
Abilities & physical limitations: The girl has a keen knowledge of science and investigative practices, but in the glitchy game world of Sburb, it isn’t likely to be of much use to her. She is, of course, just a normal girl, and thus has the limitations of one.
Appearance: Here, have a picture!

Title: Sleuth of Secrets
In-game abilities:The Sleuth class is a passive class that primarily concerned with discovery, whether it be an inner discovery of the self or working to unravel some greater mystery. It is a class fueled by determination, and often inspires it in others.
Secrets, as an aspect, manifests itself in the ability to determine if someone is lying or trying to hide something. It’s presented to the Hero as a faint blue glow around those who are lying. With more experience, this glow will be easier to see and may intensify depending on the gravity of the secret. Unfortunately, this means that it only works with face-to-face conversations. At lower levels, better liars may be able to avoid being discovered, but as the Hero of Secrets gains experience, they will be better able to sniff out falsehoods. As the hero climbs the echeladder, they may gain an intuition of the types of questions to ask or moves to make when encountering someone who is hiding something. God tier powers may include the ability to psychically persuade others to reveal their truths and secrets.
Planet: The Land of Flasks and Concrete is made up of various islands almost entirely dominated by sprawling, concrete cities and glass mountain ranges. Each island is connected to two or three others by large bridges that stretch across the waters. The cities, however, are quiet and seemingly lifeless. The ferret consorts have gone into hiding, fearing the wrath of the denizen. Something has enraged the fearsome bull Talos, and when not slumbering within the great mountain on his island, he rushes around the outskirts of the islands like a cyclone in his anger, kicking up fearsome waves that threaten to destroy the ferret’s bridges and their homes.

“Lana?” she called as she closed the door to the apartment behind her. No reply. The silence confirmed what the locked door had told her; her sister wasn’t home. She frowned as she shuffled her way into the kitchen. She had so much to tell her sister about her day, how she tracked down Mr. Edgeworth—scientifically, of course, with her footprint analyzing equipment—all the way out Gatewater land, and helped him gather evidence for a murder case. Ugh, and having to give her statement to that annoying wolf-man and his lackeys. That she could have done without. She wondered if her sister knew him.
Where was Lana, anyway? She’d told Ema this morning that she didn’t have any plans.
Ema shrugged her bag off of her shoulder, hanging it over corner of one of the wooden chairs in the small kitchen space. A bright orange sticky note on the kitchen table caught her attention. She leaned over it and read her sister’s familiar scrawl.
“Had to run out to meet with Jake.
I’ll be back later with some take-out.
Love, Lana.”
Well. That answered that question.
Next to the note was a stack of envelopes. It looked like her sister had retrieved the mail, and unfortunately there was no sign of her package. Ema had ordered herself a bottle of a new fingerprinting powder, eager to test it out on various types of prints. Regrettably it seemed that her experiments would have to wait another day at least. She just knew she should have rushed the order.
She sighed, flipping idly through the usual bills and junk-mail in the pile until something caught her eye: A pair of envelopes, unmarked aside from a strange pink spirograph and the word SBURB printed across the top of each. The font and design reminded her of the sort of thing she’d see on the box of a video game. She picked up one of the envelopes, feeling the presence of the disc inside of it. Lana doesn’t play games, what’s this all about? she wondered, scrutinizing the otherwise-blank envelope. But what else could it be? And who had sent it to her?
It sounded like a little scientific investigation was in order.
If her package had come in she could have dusted the slick envelope and the disk for prints. She just knew she should have brought some back with her for spring break. Let this be a lesson, Ema: never let yourself be caught without the proper scientific equipment! It was such a shame to leave evidence undiscovered.
But there were other things to investigate about it in the meantime—like what sort of program was on the disc. She collected the pair of envelopes and made her way over to the desk where Lana’s laptop sat idle. Ema plopped herself down onto the chair and pulled out on of the discs, examining it closely. The same pink design on the envelope was emblazoned on the surface of the disc. She was growing more and more intrigued of what their purpose could be. Sure, the discs weren’t hers, but all she needed was a quick little peek. What would be the harm in that?
And it was in the name of science, after all.
